the need for a list

I love lists.

Lists help give me the illusion of control over situations that seem out of my control or in situations where the obstacles are too numerous to know where to start.

My father used to make lists.  Before he died, he made the family lists so that we would have his help once he was gone.  For example, my mom has a list to aid her in buying vehicles and a list of where to get certain things fixed on her vehicle.  I have a list of ideas, instructions and good ideas to be used for job hunting.

Anyways, I made a list of the issues that immediately affect Megan’s wellbeing.  I separated the items in the list under problems that could be controlled and/or solved and problems that are currently out of our control.

Megan had a meeting yesterday that she was concerned about.  She was concerned that the various issues she needed to discuss with this person would cause her anxiety which would then lead to her getting upset and result in making a bad situation worse.  She was concerned that this person would not have positive answers for her.  So, I made a list … a list setting out the topics of discussion.  I thought this list would help her keep on track and help to keep her emotions out of it.  It would also ensure that nothing she wanted to discuss was forgotten.

The outcome:  today things are not perfect but they are headed in a positive direction.

Thank you for the outpouring of love, support and good wishes.

You can count on me if you ever need a list to help solve a problem!

I’m happy that things are looking better and that you have a way to keep them heading that way!

My lists are usually “to do” ones and in the time allotted I only manage about half of what I thought I could…you’d think I’d be better at it by now!

I’ve got a list. It says: Hug Nerdy. Tell her she is beautiful and wonderful. Then rub the tears from her cheeks with thumbs and kiss her forehead.

Glad to hear that things are going a little better.

I love lists. So happy to see someone else that loves lists as much as I do.

I’m glad things are good. I love lists, too. I make lists for everything. I make lists everyday. Sometimes, on my To Do Lists. I put things that I have already done just so I can mark them off.

I am a list writer as well. I love lists. Crossing things off feels like such an accomplishment. And glad things are looking better.

Glad that things are looking up. I make lists, too. But mine are dumb.

I too am a fan of the list. For the exact same reason. I also love feeling accomplished should I get to cross things off. Like, even at the grocery store!

Thank you, thank you, thank you for all your comments… List LOVERS unite!

What I forgot, was the most important thing:

And my first sentence said it all…

“Lists help give me the illusion of control …”

    *sigh*
